A 25-year-old man was charged on Thursday with murder for the slaying of an east Hollywood theater director who was his gay lover.

Jose Fructuoso, a 25-year-old illegal immigrant of Mexico is being held in the Twin Towers jail in lieu of $1 million, was arraigned later Thursday morning at the downtown Los Angeles courthouse.

Jose Fructuoso was arrested late Monday on suspicion of killing Bennett Bradley, 59, who was found dead about 5:50 p.m. Saturday in his Mid-Wilshire apartment in the 100 block of South New Hampshire Avenue.

Bradley, a director/producer at Fountain Theatre, had been brutally stabbed to death, Officals said.

Capt. Matt Blake, commanding officer of the LAPD’s Olympic Station, said Bradley was likely killed around 5 p.m. Friday and added that the victim and Fructuoso had a “romantic relationship.”
